We had a very early alarm call this morning, courtesy of some very loud thunder, a spectacular lightening show and some heavy rain. Luckily the rain stopped just in time for the morning session warm up.
The swimmers started the session in jovial mood, with a challenging 400 IM set.
The rain started again in abundance just as the swimmers were leaving the pool. This provided a good excuse to start the sad job of drying kit and backing bags, although by 11am the sun had broken thru and, with a much deserved break from land training today, the swimmers were able to spend a couple of hours relaxing on the beach and around the resort pool, prior to lunch. Even the Chaperones managed a few minutes down time on the beach.
For the afternoon session, we selected four teams of swimmers, with each team selected with an even balance of 200 IM times
Lots were drawn for lanes and the battle commenced!
Each team of seven swimmers swam an IM relay over 100 lengths, with each team completing seven lengths of fly, then seven back, breast and free, repeating for 3 ½ rotations with a final two lengths of breaststroke swum by the team captains (Mia Carter, Meg Wickham, Annabel Hunt and Ellie Mitchell)
The closely contested race was won by Team ‘OW’ in a very respectable time of 1 hour, three minutes and 58 seconds. The post-race excitement proved too much for some, who just couldn’t resist staying out of the pool!
Celebrating at the end of the camp
To conclude the final session of the trip, our swimmers took the opportunity to impress the on-looking Norwegian National Team with a 50m synchronised dive to finish off the camp in real style!!!!
We celebrated the final evening on resort with a Halloween themed dinner and games session
The final challenge of the trip is a 4am transfer to the airport! It’s been a great week, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Everyone is looking forward to being reunited with their families – see you all at Stansted!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the three Chaperones, Ray Eastland, Tina Carroll & Alex Penkul who have all been fantastic in looking after the swimmers throughout our week away………..they quite simply have been amazing !!
In addition, I would like to also thank Lisa Collins for supporting me behind the scenes in the administrative planning of the trip and making this Swim Camp a reality.
And lastly, I would like to thank all the SWIMMERS for making the Swim Camp a resounding SUCCESS !!!
