Bishops Stortford swimming club competed in the National Arena Swimming League on Saturday Evening. This was the first round of three so the team had to be in at least the top 3 to mount a promotion challenge
They were up against some tough opposition. Potter Bar, Leander, Bexley, Greenwich Royals, Hemel Hempstead and Wandsworth.
All Stortford big guns were on pool side for the challenge.
15 victories on the night. The highlights were Tom Ogden 100m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly and Elliott 200m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle, Millie Fields 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle all had double victories.
Mia Carter was impressive winning the 100m Backstroke, Alex Catton also touched out first. Daniel Chada returned to top form for top spot in the 100m Backstroke, Chloe Ogden stepped up to win the 100 Breaststroke, Kia Phillips was a strong performer with a super win in 50m Butterfly.
The ladies and men open medley relay teams both were winners also 15/under boys and girls medley relays were impressive in their victories.
Other swimmers to get onto the podium were. Niamh James, Callum Davies, Nellie Eastland, Nicholas Botha, Sara Carroll.
The team also had impressive performances from Jago Derrington, Georgina Barlow, Adam Hazelwood, Josie Pretious-White, David Badcock, Lilian Opiyo, Roman Artamonov, Isabella Good, Marco Tontodonati, Charlie Berry, Bryn Couser, Callum Harold, Anya Fletcher, Fergal Barry, William Picton, Elizabeth Clune, Jaymee Wardell, Laura Hull, Freya Reilly and Amy Chada
A special mention for Cira Fletcher who travelled from Nottingham to compete for the club.
Final Results on the night were Leander 1st, Bishops Stortford 2nd,Bexley 3rd.
Now Bishops Stortford are in a promotion dog fight lying 3rd out of 16 teams with two teams going up.
Beniot Grattepanche Head coach said it is exciting times for the club with a number of Excellent performances. Our swimmers are a match for anyone and it is delightful to see the younger swimmers perform so well at this National Level Event.

12 year age group, Laura Hull 2 golds 50m Backstroke 34.35, 100m Freestyle 1:06.50, silver 100m Backstroke 1:16.25. James Gisborne gold 200m Freestyle 2:20.56, 2 silvers 400m Freestyle 4:56.28, 50m Breaststroke 38.71, bronze 50m Freestyle 30.55.
Thomas Ogden (13 years) gold 50m Freestyle 27.11, bronze, 200m Freestyle 2:10.70.
10 year age group George Grimwood gold 200m Freestyle 3:3.84, Kirsty Neill bronze 100m Backstroke 1:45.71
9 year age group Oliver Gisborne 2 silvers 50m Breaststroke 53.29, 200m Freestyle 3:24.07, Hannah Robinson bronze 50m Butterfly 55.72, Tain Phillips bronze 50m Breaststroke 57.21.
11 year age group Jaymee Wardell bronze in the gruelling 400m Individual Medley 6:32.85, Roman Artamonov bronze 200m Breaststroke. Roman also achieved consideration times in 3 events for 2018 County Championships.
