J1 Training: Step by Step

Posted on: 11th March 2025

To run our own club meets such as Club Championships or No Frills, or to be able to send our swimmers to externally run Open Meets or our teams to Peanuts and Arena League competitions, we must have our own BSSC officials.

We desperately need to build a new group of officials, as many of our current officials no longer have swimmers at the club!

The following guide breaks down the training pathway to becoming a Judge Level 1 – a swimming technical official responsible for timekeeping, inspecting turns, ensuring swimmers comply with rules during starts, turns, and finishes.

If you are interested in becoming an official, or would just like to know more about what’s involved, please email officials@bsswimclub.org.uk
