On Sunday 16th September, 5 Bishop’s Stortford swimmers, James Gisborne, Kaia Phillips, Alice Longman, Leo Suo-Saunders and Catherine Clune, represented Hertfordshire in the Junior Intercounty Team competition hosted by Bedfordshire ASA at Inspire Luton.
The competition comprises teams of swimmers in age groups 10 to 13 from Norfolk, Warwickshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire and so is an early opportunity for younger swimmers to experience a team gala in a 50m pool.
Highlights were Kaia winning 12 Yrs 100M Backstroke in 1:13.78, James and Alice achieving 3rd places in 13 Yrs 100M Breaststroke and 11 Yrs Mixed 4x50M Freestyle Relay (respectively), Catherine scoring a 3 second PB in 50M Butterfly, and Leo fighting off opposition to maintain his place in 10 Yrs 50M Freestyle.
From a slightly slow start, Hertfordshire came 4th overall, behind Essex, Warwickshire and Suffolk, which was a very creditable performance and shows some promise for the future.
Well done to the entire Hertfordshire Junior team and in particular the BSSC swimmers.
