Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club had a large squad of nearly 40 swimmers in action at the Cheshunt Swimming Club’s 14thAutumn Open meet at Harlow Leisurezone on Saturday 27thOctober. The whole squad swam fantastically bringing home 29 trophies (10 Gold, 5 Silver, 14 Bronze), multiple County times, and countless PBs, but best of all they had great time being the loudest and best moving squad during the Conga / Macarena / YMCA / Hokey Cokey warm up! Even Laure, their coach, joined in and showed off her best moves!
Session 1 started in spectacular style with Jaymee Wardell (12 year) and Sofia Read (13 year) both getting bronze and Jago Derrington (12) winning gold with some spectacular PBs in the Girls and Boys 400m Freestyle events. That was quickly followed by the 100m Fly where Grace Mason (12) took gold and Alice Longman (11) bronze. And from then on, the trophies and PBs kept coming (whilst the parents gradually melted in the gallery)!
The Girls 50m Backstroke event was BSSC’s most successful event of the meet and definitely needs special mention, with one of our youngest swimmers, Zoe Opiyo, taking bronze in the 9-year age group and Ellen Millar-Bond and Alice Longman getting silver and bronze in the 11-year age group. Then our 12-year-old girls stepped up and dominated the event, getting a clean sweep of first to fifth place with Lauren Gore and Lilian Opiyo getting joint gold and Jaymee Wardell the bronze!! Great swims from them all.
