The first major competition your swimmer will try to qualify for will be Swim Herts County Championships, or ‘Counties’ as they are more commonly referred to, which are held over three weekends in January/February each year. For our younger swimmers their first County time is a Big Deal. The following guide contains lots of information about Counties including how to qualify.

This is the website page where Swim Herts will publish information about past and upcoming Counties.
Each year there are event consideration and qualification times for each age group/gender which must be achieved within the qualification window/period which typically opens during April and closes mid-December – remember to look at the column for the age your swimmer will be on the 31st December the year of Counties being held (normally next year) and not the age when they are swimming in Open meets to try and get the times for qualification. Pre-covid the times changed each year based on the performance times of the previous Counties. Post Covid it took a few years to settle back to a standard format.
