County Championships 2025 campaign kicks off

Posted on: 17th January 2025

Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club’s 2025 County Championships campaign got off to a strong start on Saturday 11th January. This year’s competition has moved to Westminster Lodge in St Albans, and kicked off with the Mixed 800m Freestyle event.

BSSC was well represented with swimmers across the ages, comprising of:

  • Noah Conroy, 10-14 years age group
  • Summer Miller, 10-14 years group
  • Samuel Bird, 15 years/over age group
  • Bobbie Macdonald-Williams, 15 years/over age group
  • Brandon Macdonald-Williams, 15 years/over age group
  • Oliver Tom, 15 years/over age group

Our youngest swimmers, Noah and Summer, took a massive 40 and 37 seconds off their entry times respectively.

Congratulations to Summer, who secured silver for her swim, with a time of 10:20.19.

Sixty BSSC swimmers qualified for this year’s Championships, a significant increase on last year’s 43 swimmers and our highest number of qualifiers in recent years.

Will be back in action the weekend of 18th and 19th, including relays for the 13/Under and 15/Under.

Celebrating 2024 Club Championships

Posted on: 1st December 2024

It was lovely to see so many swimmers, parents and supporters at our Club Championship Awards Night on Saturday 30th November.

We were taken through the successes of the year by Head Coach Jamie McLoughlin – from Counties to Nationals and securing a place in the Arena League Premier Division London Final. It was wonderful to hear a summary of the 2023/2024 season and how well many of our swimmers have done.

Jamie then introduced our new Club Captains, Dylan Davenport and Emma Fields. They spoke about their plans for the year ahead, including a new house system for swimmers and re-introducing a sense of family to the Club. We said thank you and goodbye to outgoing Captains Freya Hadnutt and Jakey Hayes – acknowledging that the new Captains had “big boots to fill”!

Rachael Hunt, a BSSC Master, then spoke to the swimmers about her journey from being “too slow” for competitive swimming as a child to her goal of swimming one million open-water meters in 2024!

Coach Joe Collins then awarded over 250 medals to the swimmers. A huge congratulations to everyone for their successes.

We then awarded 15 trophies to swimmers who have done exceptionally well this year. Trophies were awarded to one person, per age group, based on the number of points achieved from their races at the Club Championships in October. The Coaches Awards were based on attendance, dedication, effort, mental strength and sportspersonship.

Thank you to everyone who made the Awards Evening such a success – it truly is appreciated.

Christmas No Frills Meet: entries open

Posted on: 18th November 2024

Entries now open: BSSC Christmas No Frills Meet.

For our younger squads and newer swimmers, this Meet is a great opportunity to get some times recorded on Swim England rankings which will enable you to enter more meets in future. If you need any advice on what to enter, please speak to your coach.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to get those last-minute qualification times for County Champs. If you already have a qualification time in an event for County Champs, we ask that you don’t enter it at No Frills (if in any doubt have a look on Swim Manager under the ‘Qualifying’ tab and green indicates a qualification time).

Please remember that there will be a quick turnaround on events so consider the schedule when selecting which ones to enter.

Final entries will be approved by Head coach.

Rookies B mini fun meet

Posted on: 16th November 2024

We will be holding a mini fun gala for Rookies B swimmers on Tuesday 10th December, during the swimmers’ usual training session. The event is designed to give swimmers their first taste of competitive racing at the Club, but in a relaxed, no-pressure environment.

More details to follow over the coming weeks from the Coaching team.

In the meantime, we’re looking for parents who would like to help out with timing the swimmers, recording their times and making sure the kids are in the right place, at the right time and ready for their races!

If you are interested in helping out, please message the Club Secretary.
